Like a Bird

You know your son has a cleaning problem (addiction?) when you have to literally tell him to stop cleaning so you can get ready for preschool, as in "Hayden, you can clean your room later but we need to get you ready for preschool....No, Hayden, seriously...stop cleaning!" Here is what he accomplished over the weekend, bearing in mind that his idea of cleaning isn't exactly my idea sometimes...

  • Reorganized the food pantry. This has already been done, being one of my favorite things to do when I feel the nesting bug (which apparently isn't as often as Hayden) but he insisted that he needed to "clean the food" and lined up everything, making it look quite organized.

  • Used a baby wipe to clean the stairs. He later used a baby wipe on my laptop and got a lecture from Jeremiah as to what was wipe-appropriate and what wasn't.

  • His toys were cleaned up both downstairs and up in his room. On a number of occasions.

  • Hayden made his bed as well as mine.

  • Swept the family room, porch, and kitchen...keep in mind this was after I vacuumed so I'm not sure what he was sweeping but he felt awfully productive.

  • Clothes from the bathroom were put into the hamper.

  • Toys that Roman was playing with were promptly stolen because Hayden insisted he needed to clean everything, including anything that Roman wanted to play with.

Hayden after one of his "food cleaning" sprees. Although not up to my standard of organization, I have to admit he spent a lot of time and effort on doing this and was so proud he insisted I take a picture.

Hayden cleaning the base of our tv. I'm pretty sure he also used the wipe on the wood entertainment center, which was part of Jeremiah's lecture of what not to do with a baby wipe.

Cleaning the stairs...again, I'd just vacuumed but he felt this was really important. He said he wanted the house to be clean for the baby. That's really something I should be saying, but whatever, I can't complain.

However, I did do my share of cleaning, including reorganizing the spice cabinet, the pantry, and the pots/pans cabinet, wiping down the cabinets, vacuuming the whole house, and mopping the kitchen. It doesn't seem like much, but considering how tired I was, I was really proud of how much I did, and that was all in one day! I've been sleeping horribly because my lower back is killing me, so my spare time has been spent taking naps. My back has been hurting so much that I couldn't even sit in church yesterday for more than like a 10-minute stretch, so I was up and walking around quite a bit (not that walking in heels was much more comfortable).

On a totally different note, having nothing to do with nesting...I had an ultrasound last Thursday because I am measuring 4-5 weeks smaller than I should be. First and foremost, we are still having a girl! The ultrasound tech showed me like three different times as if I needed that much reassurance. Our little girl weighs like 5 lbs 14 oz, so she isn't small...in fact, she still has over a pound to gain, so even though I am measuring small, she isn't. so everything is good. The best part (and the part that makes me sad that Jeremiah wasn't there) was watching our little girl open her eyes and stick out her tongue. The tech said that she had chubby cheeks and a full head of hair. Start picturing her in your mind, we'll see how close you were in a few weeks!

So, does Hayden want to come to my house and clean? I'll even let him take away the toys from Jack so he can get it clean enough.

I wish Rix had the cleaning bug. The only way we can get him to clean is by serious threatening and/or bribing with treats. I love how helpful he is!! And I'm glad you took pictures so someday you can show him that he was helpful at one point in his life :) Call me only if you are in labor dang it!

i would ask if i could borrow him, and even offer to pay him, but i think that would be illegal under the child labor laws or something...i'll have to get my own some day & hope he/she/they love to clean as much as hayden does!

also, i am so glad that i'm not the only paranoid one around these parts! :)

Is Hayden for hire? I see someone else asked, but I'd at least pay (but not for the plane ticket...he'd have to provide his own transportation to his job).

What a cute and helpful boy you have! I love that he is so helpful and loves to clean. I also think it's so neat that you could see your little girl open her eyes and stick out her tongue on the ultrasound. How incredibly cool!

First, Hayden sounds like my perfect dream child. Good for him, and great for you! Next, way to go yourself little missy. You accomplished a great deal in one day. Very impressive. And then last but certainly not least. Good news about your sweet little girl. That ultrasound sounds like it was so much fun. I can't wait to see what she looks like. We all know that she will be just beautiful!

Oh my gosh this made me laugh so hard. That is SO adorable! I'm not sure if Kory was smiling more be because I was laughing or because Hayden's cleaning kick. He liked the part where he took the toys from Roman in order to clean saying, "That sounds like Hayden." I love the pic of him wiping down the stairs! Too cute :)
