Date Night....with the boys

Maybe I'm going through date-night withdrawals?? I decided the other night to take the boys out for a date, and I'm one lucky girl because I had two of the cutest dates around. Mom and Dad agreed to watch Aubrey, and the boys and I hopped into the car. The first part of our date was Baskin-Robbins ice cream. Here's a little known fact: I worked at this very same Baskin-Robbins for a total of two days. Back in like 1999. I hated it. But I love their ice cream! The boys picked out bubble gum, one of the few ice creams I absolutely despise. The ice cream is bright pink (think pink teeth, tongues, lips, mouths...) and whenever they came across a piece of gum, they would spit it out onto a napkin to save for the end. They even counted each piece of slobbery gum, something around 20 pieces each. I was happy with a chocolate-peanut butter scoop. What's a date without ice cream? Ours was perfect.

Our next stop was to Barnes and Noble. I had a Groupon for $20 for books and I decided to let each of them go and pick out their own favorite books. Roman picked out two Lego books - one Lego City and one Lego Kingdoms. Legos are their current obsession and they are saving their money for the Lego Kingdom castle, which is only $120...they might be saving for awhile! Hayden picked out the next four books in his Magic Treehouse series. He now has books 1-12, and I just learned the series has a total of 45, although Hayden assures me he's read #100. Not sure that one is true.

It was a fun evening. The boys got to pick out whatever ice cream they wanted, despite my suggestions for something less bubble-gummy. They then got to pick out whatever book they wanted. I love that they love books, even though Roman isn't reading...yet!

Valentine's Day 2011

We celebrated Valentine's Day on Sunday this year because that's when everyone was able to come over to Mom and Dad's house for dinner AND because Jeremiah was leaving on Sunday night to work up in Seattle for the week.

Which means that, yes, my actual Valentine's Day was just like any other normal day. Work, children, basketball game (Hayden's team lost), and bed. Sad, right?

We had everyone over to Mom and Dad's house for dinner. Dad made Polynesian Short Ribs (to die for! I need to post the recipe when I get it). Celeste made maple-yes, maple!- roasted potatoes, and Carissa made a great salad. I always love me a great salad. For dessert, I made chocolate mousse in pink chocolate cups (pictures below).

Mom gave the kids their own little Valentine's bag filled with treats. The boys got pirate shirts, and Aubrey got a pink sparkly alphabet book.
She is so excited, can you tell?

Gasp! He's half naked! Blame Carissa, she took this photo.

Jack, Roman, and (scared?) Hayden in their pirate shirts. Aarrgh!

All the boy cousins in their new shirts.

My mousse filled chocolate cups. I could only find Wilton pink melting chocolates, they only come in vanilla flavoring. If you live in Utah, you can find strawberry-flavored pink melting chocolates here. That was my initial idea, but couldn't find any in the Tacoma area.
