Roman's first day of school EVER

Roman started preschool at Hillcrest Elementary (aka Hayden's school) on September 1st. He attends 9am-noon every day. And he cries every morning when I drop him off. This is the same boy that never really went to nursery class at church. He's just that shy. I sort of expected it. Luckily, the teacher's aide, Miss Nicole, will take Roman and cuddle with him for a few minutes.

I actually learned about this preschool in mid-August from a friend. I thought it was a school for kids who were developmentally delayed or had some concern (speech, ESL, etc). Apparently Roman's social awkwardness is considered a delay? Or a concern? The fact that he wouldn't do the screening with the teacher unless he sat in my lap and received my approval to speak probably spoke volumes to the teacher about just how shy he was.

Do you see a Mario theme here? Honestly, they don't play that much. Just on weekends. But they each picked out these Mario bags at Toys R Us with their allowance money. And this may come as a shock to you....Lovey is inside the bag. He's allowed to take Lovey in his bag as long as he doesn't take it out. Doesn't mean he didn't sit by his bag for an hour the first day of school!

Roman is doing well in preschool. It still takes him a few minutes to get over the fact that I've left him there. He has a few church friends in his class, and Hayden's classroom is just two doors away. He had his "special day" on Thursday. Basically, he is in charge of snack time (he decided a week ago to bring Gogurt), he gets to be in front of the line everywhere they go, he gets to ring the clean-up bell, and he gets to show off a special toy (Lovey, of course). I'm even surprised (and quite proud) to say that he is already writing his name...

Yeah Roman! I guess I did not realize he was quite that shy! He will thrive - it will be terrific for him and you :)

His shyness is so cute to me! Maybe it's those eyes :) I can't believe he is already writing his name! We've tried with Jack but he just doesn't care so much. What a smarty-pants Roman is!

So cute ... I love the buzz cut. The Mario cracks me up. I bet you are loving have a few hours a day with only one child to keep track of. I'm ready for my "special day" ... but, somehow I don't think it's coming for a while. :)

I think his shyness is so cute too. I just want to snuggle with him! And I love the Mario bag! Good thing my kids don't know about it (yet) because they would want it. And Bryce doesn't write his name. The time I tried to teach him to write a B was torture! There was no way I was moving on to the RYCE part!

Kelli, he is sooo sweet! I am glad that he is getting better at it though, it must be hard for you to leave him, and I love that he takes his Lovey with him!
